Useful Info
Ideal time for Bulgaria
Choosing the perfect time to plan your Bulgarian holiday depends entirely on your travel program. For those interested in cultural roundtrips or sightseeing, the low season (spring and autumn) offers mild weather and the chance to explore historic sites like Nessebar or the Stone Forest without the crowds. Alternatively, the high season is ideal for travelers searching for the sun on the Black Sea Coast.
Whether you prefer the quiet charm of the off-season or the vibrant energy of a Bulgarian summer, timing your visit to your interests ensures the ultimate travel experience.

Ideal Time in Winter
Did you know that Bulgaria is home to three major international ski resorts? While famous for its summer coast, Bulgaria is also a premier destination for winter sports in the Balkans. Below you will find the most reliable periods for guaranteed snow cover across Bulgaria’s premier international resorts, ensuring the best conditions for your ski or snowboard holiday.
Snow = January to first half of March
Climate
Having lived and traveled across the region for years, we can confirm that Bulgaria’s Continental European climate is one of its greatest assets. The distinct four seasons create a versatile year-round destination, but timing is key to matching your goals.
In our experience, the peak summer months are ideal for the coast, with reliable average temperatures of 27°C and sea breezes. Conversely, Bulgarian winters provide the perfect “cold and snowy” balance for the Balkans, with temperatures hovering around -4°C—creating excellent powder conditions in the Pirin and Rila mountains. To stay ahead of local changes, we always rely on Sinoptik, as it provides the most accurate, high-resolution local forecasts that international apps often miss.
Change in Bulgaria
Following our successful integration into the Eurozone on January 1, 2026, the Bulgarian lev has been officially retired from daily use. As of February 1, all cash transactions at retail outlets, gas stations, and hotels must be made exclusively in Euros (€).
Non-Eurozone Countries:
Based on our local expertise, the safest way to ensure you receive the official fixed rate is to visit a Bank or use your Hotel Reception. We strongly advise travelers to avoid “Street Exchange” offices, which often hide high commissions behind “No Fee” signs. To protect your funds, never exchange money at home or upon arrival at the airport, where rates are at their lowest.

Stay in Golden Sands
Golden Sands offers a massive range of world-class hotels, from luxury 5-star resorts to family-friendly beachfront stays. While we do not provide overnight accommodations directly, we can use our local Bulgarian expertise to help you find the perfect hotel that best suits your needs and budget. Based on our personal experience and consistent guest feedback, we highly recommend the Grifid Hotels collection in Golden Sands.
Why Golden Sands
If you look at a map of Bulgaria’s 378km coastline, your eyes will likely land on the two “giants”: Sunny Beach and Golden Sands. Most tourists end up in Sunny Beach because it’s famous, it’s loud, and frankly, you often feel packed like sardines. but if you ask us? We’ll take the green, rolling hills of Golden Sands every single time.
At VIP Tour Varna, we’ve always been a bit different. We are an intimate, small-scale company, and honestly, the giant “concrete jungle” vibe just isn’t us. Golden Sands feels like home because the forest literally meets the sand. You get better hotels, a stunning National Park as your backyard, and a resort center that actually feels walkable and cozy. It’s where nature and quality finally meet, and for us, that makes it the perfect base for the personal, boutique experiences we love to create for you.

Pasport & Visa
Bulgaria is now a full member of the Schengen Area. While this makes travel more streamlined, we always recommend that you double-check your specific entry requirements before departure. This is especially important for non-EU members, as documentation rules can vary significantly. To ensure a smooth arrival, please consult your official foreign department for the most up-to-date 2026 regulations. To save you the search, we have included the direct link to the official Bulgarian requirements below.
